A tragic road accident near Hyderabad on Monday morning claimed 19 lives, including 10 women and a three-month-old infant, when a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus collided head-on with a speeding truck carrying gravel.

The fatal crash occurred around 7:30 AM on the Chevella-Bijapur highway—also known as the Mirzaguda-Khanapur road—in Ranga Reddy district, close to Tandur town in Telangana’s Vikarabad district, about 50 km from Hyderabad.

💔 Families Devastated in Tandur

Among the victims were 16 residents of Tandur, leaving the small town in mourning.

“I have lost three daughters. I don’t know how I will survive this,” said a grief-stricken Yellaiah Goud, as his wife Ambika wept inconsolably outside Chevella Government Hospital.

Their three daughters—Anusha, Bindu, and Sushmitha—had travelled from Hyderabad, where they were studying, to attend a family wedding over the weekend. They were returning to their colleges in the city when tragedy struck.

“The eldest daughter, Anusha, was married just last month. The family was still celebrating her wedding,” said Narasimha, a relative.

👩‍👶 Mother Found Holding Her Baby

Another sad tale unfolded from the ruins. Saliha Begum (33) and her little baby boy of just three months were counted in the dead.

Savitri, the rescue worker who assisted in the victim's recovery, recounted, “As the debris was removed, the mother was still holding her baby so tightly.”

It is said that Saliha was on the way to Hyderabad for a visit to her grandparents on her father’s side.

🚛 Speeding Truck and Horrific Aftermath

According to preliminary reports, the truck carrying gravel was speeding when it collided with the TSRTC bus. The gravel load overturned, burying several passengers alive. Rescue teams used earth movers to remove debris and recover the bodies from the mangled bus.

RTC officials confirmed that the bus, which departed at 4:30 AM, had been hired from a private operator and was on its designated route when the accident occurred.

😢 Father and Son Torn Apart

One of the victims was N. Hanumanthu, a man who missed his morning train to Hyderabad and made up his mind to take the bus which was unfortunate. The father was devastated but the 10-year-old son, Vivek, managed to survive.

“His disappearance was so quick, it was like within minutes I lost my father,” the boy uttered while crying.

An inquiry into the cause of the accident has been opened by the authorities which includes the possibility of the truck driver’s excessive speed and overloaded gravel being the reasons for the tragic accident.
